Vintage fashion photographer Christoph John tries to make sense of all the mayhem. To early or too late? An explosion of images across mainstream media and networks, along with the digital revolution, has created an industry that needs to be explored. An industry that is beset with sterile and featureless drones. Whatever happened to flying by the seat of your pants, making it up as you go along, warm skin tones, orange hues and high texture? An age of cloned beauty and expectation dilutes taste and opinion. Demand high texture, demand orange hues and demand tans lines before we all end up with a spray tan.

There are three main websites sites that are used by enthusiasts and professionals starting in the industry. Revered by some, reviled by others. Purestorm. Purpleport. Modelmayhem.
An exploration of technique, community and thriftiness, this series has been deliberately tied with constraints. The models must be found on one of those sites and the fashion must be vintage or from eBay with a total shoot budget no greater than £100.
Is it possible?
Do the websites deserve to be revered or reviled?
Can a series of photographs be produced on a small budget and be worthy of a second view?
